A porcelain mug, commemorating the coronation of King Edward VIII on May 12, 1937 (although it never took place!).
Edward VIII is the only king to have abdicated to live out his love affair, after less than a year of reign and before even being able to be crowned. Thus the planned date of his coronation, May 12, 1937, was finally that of his brother George VI succeeding him on the throne.
This mug is therefore a rare testimony to this extraordinary historical fact.
Printed and hand-colored decoration featuring a medallion portrait of King Edward VIII topped with royal symbols: the crown, the lion, the Tudor rose, the shamrock, etc.
Height 10.5 cm and diameter 7 cm.
Good general condition.
Antique item that may contain traces of time.
